Homage to Max Klinger

"Intimate Moments" was a solo exhibition by Ursula
Klinger and was on show in the Daffodil Art Gallery,
Skerries in October 2007.

The paintings are a homage to her name sake, no
relation, Max Klinger (1857-1920) and a response
to his famous cycle of etchings entitled
"Ein Handschuh" (A Glove), relating a fable and love
story surrounding the finding of a woman's glove.
Intriguingly not only do the two artists share the
same surname but the same date of birth, apart
from a 103 year gap.

"According to Ursula Klinger, having come across a "fabulous" pair of shoes early last year the
idea of a homage to the glove story was born.
"By putting my life and thoughts into the paintings of these shoes I made them my own
memories, experiences of romance, love, loss, hopes and fears. These themes started to
develop a life of of their own, the paintings circled around all the different aspects of
relationships and apply not only to my life but all our lives."

The paintings are classical in execution with Klinger building up glazed layers of paint to create
surreal and dramatic compositions. Although she does claim the work shows different aspects
of relationships it is most assuredly a female perspective with beautiful and sexy shoes,
sensuous colours and materials. Having said that it still most certainly does portray the power
